How We Verify Signed Funko Pops
At Anime Jays Kollectables, signed and convention-exclusive Funko Pops are among our most sought-after pieces. We know buyers need confidence before purchasing, so this guide explains exactly what documentation we gather and how we present it for every signed item.
1. Provenance — Where Did This Pop Come From?
Every signed Pop in our inventory comes with a documented acquisition story. We record:
- Source of purchase — whether purchased directly at a convention, from a verified seller, or through an established auction.
- Event or location — the convention name, date, and city where the signing took place (e.g., San Diego Comic-Con 2024, Anime Expo 2023).
- Chain of ownership — any prior ownership history we can verify, including receipts, purchase records, or seller documentation.
We only list signed items where we can document a clear, credible acquisition story. If provenance cannot be established, the item is sold as an unsigned collectible.
2. Certificates of Authenticity (COAs)
Where a Certificate of Authenticity accompanies an item, we:
- Photograph the COA in full, front and back.
- Note the issuing party (e.g., the signing company, event organizer, or third-party authenticator).
- Include the COA physical copy in the shipment when one was provided at the time of signing.
Important: Not every signing event issues a COA. When no COA exists, we rely on provenance documentation and photos in place of a certificate — and we say so clearly in the product listing.
3. Holographic Stickers & Tamper-Evident Labels
Some signings — particularly those organized by Funko, JSA, Beckett, or major convention partners — include holographic or numbered stickers placed directly on the box or Pop at the point of signing. When present, we:
- Photograph the sticker in detail, including the serial or reference number.
- Note the issuing organization in the listing.
- Do not remove or move stickers under any circumstances.
If a sticker is absent, the listing will state "no sticker issued at event" so you know this is expected rather than missing.
4. Photo Standards
Every signed Pop listing includes a complete photo set taken by us before shipment:
- Full box, all sides — front, back, left, right, top, and bottom.
- Signature close-up — sharp macro shot of the signature showing detail, ink color, and placement.
- COA or sticker close-up — where applicable, a separate high-resolution shot.
- Condition shots — any box creases, pin marks, or imperfections are photographed and noted.
- Reference photo — where available, a photo from the signing event itself showing the artist or celebrity signing the item, or a photo alongside the signed Pop.
All listing photos are of the exact item you will receive — we do not use stock or representative images for signed pieces.
5. Convention Exclusives
Convention exclusive Pops (stickered or unstickered) in our inventory are documented with:
- The specific exclusive sticker (e.g., SDCC, NYCC, Galactic Toys) photographed on the box.
- Purchase receipts or event wristbands where we have them.
- Clear notation in the listing of whether the exclusive sticker is present and in what condition.
6. What We Don't Claim
We are collectors, not third-party authenticators. We document everything we can and present it transparently, but we do not:
- Guarantee authenticity beyond the documentation provided in the listing.
- Issue our own COAs or authentication numbers.
- Represent that any item has been graded or certified by JSA, Beckett, PSA, or any other third-party service unless that documentation is physically present and photographed.
If you require third-party graded authentication, we recommend sourcing graded pieces from a grading service directly, or sending a purchased item for grading after purchase.
